Ask the family to keep you up to date

Introduction

Dealing with a permanent exclusion will be a difficult time for the young person and the people around them. Sometimes, this leads to limited communication. It can be helpful to ask the people you are working with to keep you updated with relevant information as things develop.

Having up-to-date information will be particularly important during an exclusion, as this event might trigger new reviews of the young person's needs, or lead to a greater understanding of what the impact of the exclusion will be for them.
